UNION, Mich. -- Douglas R. "Doug" Osborn, 62, of Union, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2009) in his home.


He was born Aug. 8, 1946, in Elkhart, Ind., to Harlan Edward and Betty Arlene (O'Dell) Osborn. On Aug. 26, 1972, he married Jackie L. Roll in Elkhart.


She survives along with one son, Adam (Cathy) Osborn of Union; one daughter, Michelle (Richard) Ottinger of Edwardsburg; seven grandchildren; three siblings, Carl Osborn of Union, Shirley (Wayne) Sherwood of Constantine and Cindy (Randy) Brunt of Edwardsburg; and his mother of Edwardsburg.


Mr. Osborn worked as a loader operator at Aggregate Industries (formerly Fidler Inc.) for 30 years. He had worked at Sam's Tire, Bristol, and was a former volunteer at the Porter Township Fire Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1966 until he was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a member of Teamsters Local 364 and Midwest Operating Engineers Local 150.


Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to Friday's 1 p.m. funeral service at the funeral home. Pastor Don Matteson of Chapel Hill Missionary Church, Union, will officiate. Burial with graveside honors rendered by DAV Chapter 19 and the U.S. Army Honors Burial Detail will follow in Kessington Cemetery, Edwardsburg.
