IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas Bryan
"Doug" Martin
October 29, 1955 – December 19, 2021
Douglas "Doug" Martin, 66, of Edwardsburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born in Detroit, MI on October 29, 1955, and was the only child to the late Robert and Dorothy (Weinhold) Martin. After graduating from Lawrence Technological University, he married Suzanne "Sue" Hurley of Dearborn, MI on Christmas Eve 1981. He worked as an engineer for nearly 40 years and retired in 2017, with his job taking him to places such as Germany, Canada, Mexico and Argentina, just to name a few. After the passing of his beloved wife Sue, Doug married Dawn D. (Bishop) Martin on May 13, 2017. Together, Doug and Dawn cared for many horses, dogs, and cats on their farm in Edwardsburg, MI. Doug was compelled to help those in need - whether it was lending a hand, providing support or guidance. His hobbies included caring for animals, vintage trucks, and firearms. In his retirement he enjoyed boating, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling - especially to Alaska and Hawaii. Doug was a devout Christian and member and volunteer of Granger Community Church in Granger, IN. He and Dawn were also professional quality amateur photographers and enjoyed doing nature shoots together. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and first wife. He is survived by his wife, his children Zack (Maggie) and Andy (Ronda) Martin, his step children Jason (Lisa) Knepp, Sarah (Billy) O'Hara, and Steven (Shayne Marvin) Norton, and his twelve grandchildren Ethan (Cassie) Knepp, Bryce Knepp, Jenna Knepp, Collin O'Hara, Olivia Haase, Blake O'Hara, Anna Martin, Amelia Martin, Trace Norton, Emmalyn Martin, Tayrock Norton, and AJ Martin. Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart have been assisting the family with cremation arrangements. For the health and safety of his friends and family, a formal celebration of life will be held in the spring. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and support staff at Elkhart General Hospital COVID Critical Care Team.
