ELKHART — Douglas Alan "Doug" Osborne, 63, of Elkhart, left his earthly home on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, and went to spend Christmas with Jesus.
He was born on June 12, 1948, in Elkhart to Robert J. and Ruth (Tyger) Osborne. He went on to marry Dianne Lynn Satterfield on April 8, 1984, in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Also left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Tracy Osborne of South Bend, Kim (Sean) Koontz of Mishawaka, and Stacy (Tony) Volheim and Cynthia Rife "Cyndi" Campogni, both of Elkhart; two sons, Jody Osborne of Elkhart and Steven Rife of Tampa, Fla.; five brothers, Donald (June) Osborne of Manhattan Beach, Calif., E. Donn Osborne of Goshen, Norman (Melba) Osborne and Timothy Osborne, both of Elkhart, and John Osborne of Australia; one sister, Dawn Carpenter of South Bend; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother David Osborne; a sister, Louise Scoville; and a sister-in-law, Traudel Osborne.
A celebration of Doug's life will be at Billings Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a service starting at 1 p.m. Pastor Denver Burns of the Michiana Community Church of God in Granger will officiate, and military honors will be rendered by Osceola American Legion Post 308, the Northern Indiana Patriot Guard, the American Legion Riders (all of which Doug was a member) and the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard.
In accordance to Doug's wishes, cremation will take place following the service and he will be inurned at the Veterans Towers in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart at a later date. Doug was a veteran of the U.S. Army during Vietnam and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren, as well as riding his Harley. He was a self-employed over-the-road trucker known as the "Yellow Jacket Express."
Memorial donations may be made to Osceola Post 308, the Patriot Guard or the Legion Riders.
ELKHART — Douglas A. Osborne, 63, of Elkhart, passed away Dec. 16, 2011. He was born June 12, 1948.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. today, June 12, 2012, at the Veterans' Towers at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart. Members of the Northern Indiana Chapter of the Indiana Patriot Guard motorcycle group will escort Doug's cremated remains to the cemetery that day.
Billings Funeral Home has been assisting the family with arrangements.
