ELKHART -- Dortha Rutherford, 86, of Elkhart, passed away at 4:02 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Elkhart Hospice House.
She was born Feb. 8, 1925, to Marilla C. (Nedham) and John H. Means, one of their four children, along with Merle Foster and Herschel and James W. Means. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
She married Raymond Scott Rutherford, whom she lovingly called Scott, April 23, 1942, until his passing after a long illness during which Dortha cared for him over 2 and half years until May 29, 2002, after 60 years of marriage.
Also surviving are sons R.S. and Linda Rutherford of Houston, Daniel L. and Pam Rutherford of Elkhart, and Jerry K. and Lory Rutherford of Houston; brother James W. and Merlyne Means of Clyde, Calif.; and her niece, Brenda and John White of Branson, Mo.
Her greatest joy was teaching children Sunday school at Grace Bible Church for more than 45 years and praying for her sons and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed but in heaven with Scott.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Ron Bell will officiate. Interment will follow at a later date in Moore Cemetery, Stotts City, Mo.
