UPDATE

A memorial service for Dorothy V. Steffan, who died Sept. 24, 2008, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Bristol. Friends may call one hour prior. Father Bob Van Kempen will officiate. Cremation arrangements were made through Billings Funeral Home.

MIDDLEBURY -- Dorothy Victoria Steffen, 96, of C.R. 4, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2008) in Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart.

She was born Feb. 6, 1912, in Chicago to George and Mary (Bezan) Starcevich. In 1970 she married Elmer Steffen in Kalamazoo, Mich. He died in 1993.

Mrs. Steffen is survived by five sisters, Sister Ann Starcevich of Adrian, Mich., Georgianna Caputo of Toledo, Ohio, and Cathern Malone, Antoinette Swenson and Rosealine Starcevich, all of Chicago; and her friends and caregivers, Allen and Beryl Nord.

Before her marriage, Mrs. Steffen worked at Commonwealth Edison Phone Co. and the Skamper Corp., Bristol. She was a homemaker, enjoyed making friends and playing cards, and was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.

There will be no visitation and cremation will take place. A memorial mass will be at a later date at St. Mary's of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Bristol.

Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St, Elkhart, is assisting with arrangements.
