Dorothy Anne Schmidt, 87, of Elkhart, IN passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at The Center for Hospice Care, Esther House.

Dorothy was born on January 11, 1937 to the late, Henry and Laura (Durrant) Olsen in Wheatfield, IN. She was married to the late, Michael Dale Schmidt on May 13, 1966 in Elkhart. He passed away on February 21, 2009.

Dorothy is also preceded in death by her husband, Michael; granddaughter, Miranda and brothers, Don, Bob and Henry.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Cindy (Randy) Mann of Mottville, MI, Steve (Pat) Schmidt of Elkhart and April Schmidt of Elkhart; grandchildren, Branden Mann (Jamie), Danielle Schmidt and Maegan (Vince) Banicki; great grandchildren, Andrew (Serenity), Broc, Cerrae, Alex, Tyler, Vincent Jr., Gracelynn, Ryker, Avery, August, Jasper and Jonah;  great great grandson, Kai; special niece, Gayle; nephew Don (Dolly); and pets, Jojo, Lil Bit and Daisy.

Dorothy graduated from Elkhart High School in 1955. She and her husband, Mike were regulars at Michael's Italian Restaurant. Together, they would travel looking for the next adventure.

Dorothy owned her own family daycare for 17 years and loved children. She was a hard worker and most recently worked at Costco.  She was a member of the Jamestown United Methodist Church and National Association of Education for Young Children.

Dorothy had an appreciation of art by watercolor painting and was a supporter of the Elkhart Art League. Dorothy sang in the all female musical group, The Sweet Adelaines.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Pinochle and Euchre and trivia with her friends. She could also be found shopping for shoes. In her younger days, Dorothy was an avid bowler and Chicago Cubs fan. She was proud of tending her garden.

Dorothy was a sweet, kind-hearted  and giving lady who had a quick a witty sense of humor.

A Celebration of Dorothy's Life Service will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514. Rev. Sean Fox is presiding the service.

Family and friends may visit with her family 1 hour prior to the start of service from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Graveside service and burial will be held at Rice Cemetery at a later date.
