ELKHART— Dorothy N. Monroe, 78, of Elkhart, passed away at 4 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Kindred Hospital of Northern Indiana, Mishawaka, following an extended illness.
She was born in Morgan County, Ala., on March 2, 1936, to the late Dewey and Ola Mae (Turner) Steadham.
She later married Robert "Bob" Monroe on Nov. 15, 1958, in Fayetteville, Tenn.
He preceded her in death along with a brother and two sisters.
Surviving are her son Charles "Stan" (Sherri) Monroe of Sturgis, Mich.; daughters Gwen (Zeb) Chester of Coldwater, Mich. and Kathy Monroe of Elkhart; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters.
Services will be at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart, where a viewing will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, followed by a funeral at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 19, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Steve Steele of Kessington Community Church will officiate and burial will follow in Little Pine cemetery in Goshen.
Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking. She was also a former day care provider and dietary aide.
