ELKHART — Dorothy T. Hamlin, 94, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday morning, June 12, 2012, at Valley View Health Care Center.
She was born Dec. 10, 1917, to the late Claude and Mary (Davis) Tubbs in Grand Rapids, Mich. She moved from Chicago to Elkhart in 1937.
Dorothy was married to Kenneth Hamlin, who passed away in 1957. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Hazzard of Grand Rapids and Jane Carris of Freehold, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, including Ann Mary Quarandillo of Olympia, Wash., Jason Carris and wife Rene and children Justin, Haden and Isabel of Manalapan, N.J., Ryan Carris and wife Kari of Naperville, Ill., Aaron Carris and wife Elizabeth and son Adler of Elkhart, Nathan Carris and wife Ali of Chicago, Emily Gorman, MD, of Cleveland and E. Hoover Gorman of Kilmarnock, Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Joan Gorman, in 2005.
Dorothy worked in the financial department at Adams and Westlake LTD. for 21 years. She then joined EASCO Aluminum as office manager until she retired in 1983. Dorothy was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was a former member of Credit Women International and past president of the Elkhart chapter and Indiana state secretary of Business and Professional Women. Dorothy enjoyed traveling all around the world and had visited 18 countries including, China, Israel, Egypt and Germany. She enjoyed antiques and collectibles.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart. A graveside service to honor her life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012, at Rice Cemetery. Pastor Carl Henry will officiate.
