Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Berdine Arko, 89, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Heritage Point Assisted Living Center in Mishawaka on Friday, December 4, 2020, at 11:30 am. She was born on July 5, 1931, in Elkhart and was the daughter of the late William and Nellie (Rohrer) Bohs. On February 7, 1953, she married William R. "Bill" Arko, who served on the Elkhart Fire Department. He preceded her in death in 2007. Also preceding her in death is her son, Steve; her sister, Elizabeth Lovejoy; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Bohs.

Surviving are her brothers, Robert Bohs of Elkhart, Gordon (Ruth) Bohs of Rochester, Indiana, and William "Bill" (Jean) Bohs of Durham, North Carolina; and her daughter-in-law, Ginger Arko of Goshen. She is also survived by grandsons, Titus and Joel Arko of Goshen, and a host of loving extended family and good friends.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart will host Dorothy's Celebration of Life service on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:30 am. Pastor Spencer Mielke of Trinity Lutheran Church of Elkhart will officiate, and a private burial will follow at Rice Cemetery following the services. Please know that COVID restrictions will be in effect, and masks, capacity limits (25), and social distancing will be required. If attending, please be open to the possibility of delays. Once you have paid your respects, please make room for others to come in and do the same.

Dorothy worked many years at E.H. Tepe in Elkhart as well as Sam's Club. Dorothy loved life. Friendly, talkative, captivating, and always animated, she captured the hearts and attention of nearly everyone she met and liked to make people smile. She had a sense of humor that earned her many friends and acquaintances.

Dorothy was a Christian lady and attended Trinity Lutheran Church. She also loved spending time with her grandsons, working outside in her yard, and watching professional basketball. She was also a meticulous housekeeper. In her younger years, rumor had it that she was quite the ice skater, too, and loved to sing.

Memorial donations made in Dorothy's memory may be given to the charity of one's choice.
