ELKHART — Doris June VanArsdale, 81, of Elkhart, passed to her rest Tuesday, Nov. 15, at her residence.
Doris was born July 2, 1935, in Indianapolis, to the late Henry Eston and Catherine V. (Thomas) Slone.
In addition to her parents, a brother Robert "Bob" Slone preceded her in death.
She married Richard A. Sapen on Sept. 11, 1949. He preceded her in death. She married Roy G. VanArsdale on July 2, 1972. He died on May 20, 1991.
Surviving are four sons, Charles E. (Teresa) Sapen, Richard D. "Doug" Sapen, William D. "Bill" (Jackie Fritz) Sapen and Justin R. (Michele) VanArsdale; also surviving are 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Joan Fritz.
Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
She formerly worked as a meat cutter at the Kroger's on Johnson Street.
She also owned and operated her own cleaning service while living in Florida.
Doris enjoyed bowling, crocheting and also loved to sing and play the piano.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart.
The afternoon will conclude with a short service and sharing of memories of Doris. Chaplain Greg Henry of Asera Care Hospice, Elkhart will officiate.
Committal services for Doris will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, in the chapel, on the grounds of Maple Hill Cemetery, 709 Harding St., Plainfield, IN 46168.
The Rev. Jon Lilly will officiate.
