ELKHART -- Doris May Parker, 89, of Elkhart, died at 10:37 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 5, 2009) in her home.


She was born May 9, 1919, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Ansel and Hattie May (Pollard) St. John. On Jan. 15, 1940, she married George J. Parker in Wellsburg, Va. He died Oct. 13, 1984, in Elkhart.


Mrs. Parker is survived by four sons, James S. (Dixie) Parker of San Jose, Calif., Ken Parker of Lexington, Ky., Roy (Carol) Parker of Elkhart and John (Ranee) Parker of Winston Salem, N.C.; one daughter, Betty Jean (Ken) Summey of Sturgis, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ansel St. John of Fort Myers, Fla.


She was preceded in death by one son, Earl Vern Parker.


Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and had worked in the cafeteria at Memorial High School. She was a 56-year member of California Road Missionary Church, where she was also a deaconess. She was a 1937 graduate of New Brighton High School, Beaver, Pa., and enjoyed playing the organ and traveling.


Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at California Road Missionary Church, 29765 C.R. 12 W., Elkhart. The Rev. Bud Walterhouse will officiate. Burial and a graveside service will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
