NEW CARLISLE – Doris Joanne Mendez, 88, of New Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018 at Hamilton Grove.

She was born September 1, 1929 in Mishawaka, IN, to Howard and Esther (Smith) Kronewitter. She married Pedro Mendez on Aug. 20, 2002.

Doris spent a short while working part-time for the Election Board of Cook County, but she spent most of her life working as a Waitress and Bartender. She volunteered for Meals On Wheels, liked garage sales, going out to eat with friends and playing the slots. She loved to spend time with her family and her church family. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Lietz and Diana Anderson; sons, Joseph Herman, and Steven Labus; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and her sister, Rosella Beggs.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pedro; son, Donald Herman; and sister, Wilma Marsolf.

A memorial for Doris will be held at a later date.

Donations in Doris's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
