ELKHART — Donald G. "Don" Brayton, 80, of Elkhart, passed away with his family around him at 3:48 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Valley View Health Care Center in Elkhart. His faith became sight, and he went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born in Mishawaka on March 6, 1931, to the late Clarence and Elsie (Arndt) Brayton and was also preceded in death by his brother, Wayne. He married Joan L. Drake on Dec. 10, 1951, in South Bend. She survives in Elkhart.
Also surviving are his sons, Russell "Russ" (Toni) Brayton of Elkhart and Robert (Pamala) Brayton of Houston; a sister, Helen Huffmaster of Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Don's life will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart. A private family service will be held the following day, with burial at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Military honors will be rendered at the graveside by Osceola American Legion Post 308 and the USMC Funeral Honor Guard.
Don was a professional freelance photographer and operated Photoarts of Elkhart for over 45 years. His works included photo shoots for the local RV industry and the Ruthmere Mansion. He also served as a platoon sergeant with the First Marine Division during the Korean War.
