Donald Lee Flager, 84, of Elkhart, went to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at his home peacefully surrounded by his family after a brief bout with cancer.

Donald was born on November 24, 1938 in Elkhart, IN to the late Wilbur and Mary Jane (Camp) Flager. He married the love of his life, Peggy (Nass) Flager on July 3, 1982.

Don is preceded in death by his Parents, Wilbur H. and Mary Jane (Camp) Flager; brother, Wilbur Flager; daughter, Kathy Hoff and brothers-in-law Terry Miller and Robert Harter.

Donald is survived by his wife of 41 years, Peggy Flager of Elkhart; his children, Barry (Tammy) Flager, Scott (Melissa) Flager, Tom (Suzanne) Kendall, and Amy (Jeff) Coats; grandchildren, Barry (Amanda) Flager, Jr., Andrew (Krestta) Flager, Danielle (Alexis) Flager, Brandon Flager, Kimberly (Michael) Conway, David Hoff, Mark Hoff, Thomas (Kylee) Kendall, Taylor Kendall, John Coats, Aaron Coats, Elizabeth Coats, Travis Wert, Joe (Christina) Riffle, Jessica (Josh) Weddington, Krista (Bob) Valhalla, Jeffery Rutledge, Jeramie (Lindsey) Hicks, Justin (Gabby) Hicks and 20 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings, Loretta Miller, Nancy Harter, Linda (Symon) Olenczuk, Bob (Deb) Flager and Sister-in-Law Roberta Flager as well as many nieces and nephews.

Don was a 1957 graduate of Concord High School where he lettered as a  first baseman on the Concord baseball team. After high school, Don honorably served his country as a Military Police officer in the Army during the Dwight D. Eisenhower presidential term. Don had the privilege of guarding the Army One helicopter for President Eisenhower and even accompanying the first lady, Mamie Eisenhower, on occasional trips.

Don was a member of the Adamsville Road Church of God where he served as a greeter and attended the Word Seekers Sunday school class with his wife.  He was also a member of theThe Moose Lodge 599 and I & M VREA Club.

Don retired in October 1998 from a 38 year career with I & M.  He began his career after the military as a D-Lineman and worked his way up to Distribution Supervisor.

Don was a quiet, generous, and gentle man. He enjoyed working in his yard and was always willing to help his family, friends, neighbors, and strangers.

He was Peggy's biggest cheerleader in support of her business and was always proud and quiet in the background. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather, whose family meant the world to him.

A Visitation with for friends and family will be on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514.

A Funeral Service with full military honors will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Adamsville Road Church of God, 51287 C.R. 7, Elkhart, IN 46514. Pastor Glenn McClimans will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the start of service from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the church.

Burial will follow the service at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Adamsville Road Church of God, Wounded Warriors Project or Tunnel to Towers.
