ELKHART — Dolly Elaine Smith, 8 month old infant daughter of Marquis "Markie" Thomas-Burke and Bradley Smith, both of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017 at 2:23 pm at the University of Chicago/Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago from injuries sustained after being struck by an automobile on Friday. Her aunt Courtney J. Smith and uncle Shawn M. Wolcott also perished in the same incident.

Besides her parents, little Dolly is survived by grandparents Yvonne Thomas & Steve Warren of Indianapolis and Sunshine "Sunny" Combs & William Smith of Elkhart; great grandparents Curtis & Wilma Summers of Elkhart and Georgette & Stan Gardner of Battle Creek, MI; godparents Jeannine and Cliff Daly of Spicewood, TX and a host of loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

The pastors and congregation of the Northside Church of the Nazarene (53569 CR 7, Elkhart) and the staff of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart are honored to host a memorial celebration of life for Dolly and her aunt Courtney on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm with a visitation beginning there at 11:00 am. Pastors Tim and Gary Sheets will officiate along with representatives from the Elkhart Police Department's Chaplain's Office. In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Dolly was a perfect, happy, content and wonderful little girl. She loved to laugh and smile and she enjoyed bouncing and wiggling in her little jumper seat.  She had just begun to discover animals, which she loved, and to clap her hands to music.

The family recognizes the great sense of loss felt by the community due to the nature of this tragedy and invites all who have been affected to come and remember, praise God and to celebrate the lives lived.
