EDWARDSBURG, Mich. — Dian Marie Devlin, 78, of Edwardsburg, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at Sprenger Healthcare of Mishawaka, Ind., following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 6, 1936, in Chicago to the late Earl and Florence (Sirrine) Jones.
She married John W. "Jack" Devlin in Nappanee in 1957. He survives at home after 57 wonderful years of marriage.
Also surviving are her daughters, Jeanne (Chester) Chaney of Columbus, Ohio, and Laura Bywaters of Edwardsburg; son John E. Devlin of Berrien Springs; sister Linda (Wayne) Boyd of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A granddaughter, Meghan Manino, preceded her in death.
A celebration of Dian's life will begin with a visitation at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, with visitation beginning an hour prior, at Smith Chapel, 29858 Redfield Road, Niles. The Rev. Dr. Lowell "Wally" Walsworth will officiate. Burial will then take place in the chapel's cemetery.
Dian was employed at the former Miles Laboratories of Elkhart for over 40 years. In 1992, she retired as marketing coordinator for the Ames Division. She was a 1954 graduate of Bowen High School in Chicago, attended IU South Bend (Ind.), served as a Girl Scout Leader in the Edwardsburg area and enjoyed wintering with Jack in Port St. Joseph, Fla., for many years.
She was an avid bird watcher and recorded bird sightings in such exotic locales as Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, the Galapagos Islands and Costa Rica. She enjoyed doing crafts such as painting, pottery, cross stitch and making quilts for all her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and will be best remembered for her strong will, undauntable spirit and her unique ability to do several things at once, earning her the family title as the "Queen of Multi-Tasking."
