ELKHART — Dennis W. "Denny" Vaughn, 65, of Elkhart, passed away at 8:09 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital, after a brief illness.
He was born in Goshen on Oct. 15, 1947, to the late W.C. Vaughn and I. June (Carrick) Vaughn Metzger. They survive him in Goshen.
He later married Rebecca J. "Becky" Crout on Oct. 21, 1967, in Elkhart.
She also survives him at home, as well as daughters Jennifer L. Rost and Melissa J. Vaughn, both of Elkhart; grandson Colin M. Rost of Elkhart; his sister Kathy S. (George) Dolshenko of Elkhart; and in-laws Bobbie and Dave Blatz and Judy and Chuck Chew, both of Elkhart and Linda and Chuck Morris of Seabring, Fla.
A brother, Billy G. Vaughn, also preceded him in death.
A celebration of Denny's life will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. A viewing will also be there, beginning at noon. In accordance with the family's wishes cremation is to take place following the service. Pastor Carl Henry of Elkhart's Northside Baptist Church will officiate.
Denny worked at Conn-Selmer in Elkhart for more than 40 years as an electroplater and buffer, retiring in 2012. He attended Northside Baptist Church and enjoyed such things as camping with his family at Potato Creek State Park, NASCAR, Notre Dame football and attending classic car shows and events in his former '69 Midnight Blue camaro with white racing stripes. He was also an avid animal lover.
Memorial donations will be accepted at the funeral home on Friday in Denny's memory on behalf of his wife, Rebecca J. "Becky" Vaughn or sent to the Humane Society of Elkhart County. Online condolences can reach the family at www.billingsfuneralhome.com.
