Obituary

The family of Dennis "Denny" Lee Foster, 70, of Elkhart, is sad to announce his passing on Wednesday, afternoon, August 30, 2023, at the Center for Hospice Care, Esther House, surrounded by the love of his family. Denny was born on July 19, 1953, in Elkhart, to Bernard Lee Foster and the late Ruth Anne (Berkshire) Foster.

Surviving is his best friend and loving wife of 48 years Barbara Ann (Samuels) Foster; loving daughter. Theresa Ann (Tony) Detwiler; two grandchildren, Toryn Sean, and Chloe Rhiannon Detwiler, whom he cherished and adored deeply; also surviving are his father Bernard Lee Foster, three brothers, Gary (April) Foster, Daniel (Karen) Foster, Patrick (Katy) Foster, and two sisters, Beth (Ken) Mahaffa and Paula (Todd) Checkley; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Denny graduated from Mishawaka Marian High School. He was active in sports lettering in cross- country, track, and wrestling where he was a team captain his senior year.

Denny worked as an Industrial Electrician. He started his career at Dragoo Electric where he honed his trade. Drawn to Florida by the 1980s construction boom, he relished the sunshine and active lifestyle, especially golf and beach volleyball. But the pull of home was strong and after the birth of their daughter decided to return home where he worked for 3 Phase and Moyer Electric for 18 years until he retired. He still worked after that, helping out at Moyer, and he especially enjoyed helping the young apprentice electricians with all of his knowledge after 30-plus years in the business.

Denny was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Elkhart Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed camping, listening to Rock and Roll music, and had encyclopedic knowledge of classic. movies. He was also quite a softball player and was known for his acrobatic catches in the outfield. Above all else, Denny was a force of nature and had an indomitable spirit – he never quit.

The family would like to especially thank the Center for Hospice Care, his primary nurse Laura Lethbridge, and his personal hospice team for providing him compassion and dignity in his final journey.

Friends and family are invited to share in celebrating Denny's life with a memorial visitation from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. Elkhart, where a parish rosary will be prayed. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11:00 am. with an additional 1 hour of visitation at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Rev.
