MIDDLEBURY — Dennis L. Hilton, 73, of Middlebury, passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, at Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Hammond to Harlan O. and Rachel G. (Shank) Hilton.
On Dec. 26, 1964, he married his wife of 49 years, Glenda (Andrews) Hilton.
In addition to his wife, other survivors include two daughters, Denise Gose of Florida and Elizabeth Hilton-Salazar of Bristol; three sons, Stephen Hilton of Hammond, Mark Hilton of Middlebury and Michael (Amanda) Hilton of Elkhart; daughter-in-law Heather Lynch of Middlebury; four sisters-in-law, Faye Lindsey of Griffith, Fran Carpenter of Munster, Carolyn (Lemuel) Hall of Seal Beach, Calif., and Betty (Michael) Kleinschmidt of San Antionio; and 10 grandchildren.
Dennis was employed as a brakeman with Erie Lackawanna, which later became Conrail, for 23 years prior to his retirement.
Dennis was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of George Washington Lodge 325 F&AM in Bristol. He was a friend of "Bob" for many years.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. He was a loving husband and father and loved taking care of his rescued animals.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
