Deltha Howard, 87, of Elkhart died Saturday March 20, 2021 at East Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Deltha was born on April 6, 1933 in Paynesville, WV, the daughter of (the late) Columbus & Nancy Jane (Compton) Vance. On July 5, 1952, she married Gale G. Howard in Elkhart; Gale preceded her in death on August 26, 2001 after 49 years of marriage. Deltha was a wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time she spent with her family & friends. She enjoyed gardening and shopping the local sales & markets for antiques & collectibles. In addition to Gale, Deltha was also preceded in death by her sister, Vadie Ratliff and her brothers, Lloyd, Oliver, Roland and Delmer Vance and an infant brother, William Vance. She is survived by her sons, David (Julia) Howard of Elkhart, James (Carol) Howard of Milton, GA, Michael (Lori) Howard of West Lafayette; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will schedule a Celebration of Deltha's Life at a later date. She will be laid to rest next to Gale in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
