GOSHEN — Delbert A. Cordell, 87, of Goshen, formerly of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday morning, Nov. 23, 2011 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
He was born April 5, 1924, in Bristow, Okla., to the late Joseph and Dovie (Gregory) Cordell and moved to Elkhart in his teens. He married Virginia B. Truex on June 27, 1943. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage together.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia B. Cordell of Goshen; sons Michael (Carol) Cordell of Houston and Tim (Rosanne) Cordell of South Bend; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother Gene Cordell of Enid, Okla. Several nieces and nephews survive as well.
Brothers Jack, Darrell, Carl, Joseph, Ray and George Cordell and sister Dorothy Cordell preceded him in death.
Delbert was a retired meat cutter for several A&P stores in the area. He was a graduate of Kellyville (Okla.) High School and served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. Delbert was a lifelong and active member of Goshen First Church of God. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at LifePoint Church (formerly Goshen First Church of God), 1006 S. 16th St., Goshen, with visitation one hour prior to services. Pastor Troy Scott will officiate. Burial will follow in California Road Cemetery, Elkhart.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. today, Nov. 25, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart.
