The Reverend Dr. Dannell Brown and the congregation of AGAPE Missionary Baptist Church, 248 W. Wolf Avenue, Elkhart, are hosting a Homegoing Service for Debra on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 12:00 noon, with viewing and visitation beginning there at 11:00 am. Following the service, cremation has been selected.
Debra was a well-known and well-liked figure in her community who absolutely loved to be involved in a whole plethora of social activities and causes. Most people would recognize her from her almost 40 years of service at the Pierre Moran Kroger Store, but her life was so much more complex than that.
She was a 1969 graduate of Elkhart High School and attended Ball State University in Muncie. She enjoyed her days in school and would meet with her Elkhart classmates quite often to reminisce and catch up. Debra was also one of the founding members of AGAPE Missionary Baptist Church, and because of that was considered one of the church mothers. She also loved to sing with the church choir and was an active and robust member of the praise team. She also served her community by sitting on the Board of Directors of the Elkhart Black Expo, an organization of which she and her family were staunch supporters for several generations. She was also a member of the Elkhart Police Department's School Crossing Guard Squad and was also responsible for several generations of school children getting to class safely and (usually) on time!! Her altruistic and gracious personality won her many friends, and it was well known that if you needed help with something, Debra was the one to call.
She also loved spending time with her family and close friends as well as travelling. She had gone on an ocean cruise recently, and she had so much fun that she was looking forward on going on another one.
Memorial donations may be given to the charity of one's choice. Friends and relatives are encouraged to leave condolences and memories of Debra by clicking "Tribute Wall" on her obituary page.
