Obituary

Dean Clark McMurray, 84, of Elkhart, and formerly of Naples, FL, peacefully went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Majestic Care of Goshen. He was born on June 18, 1939, in Youngstown, OH, to the late Homer and Edith (Mason) McMurray. On June 18, 1960, In Youngstown, OH, Dean married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Kubrin. She passed away on June 24, 2023 after 63 wonderful years together.

Dean is survived by his daughters, Wendy (Gregory) Thorne, and Shelli (Michael) Stutz; grandchildren, Alyssa (Curt) Konopasek, Stephen Thorne, Michael (Renee) Stutz, Taylor Stutz, and Drew Stutz; great-grandchildren, Nolan and Avery Konopasek; siblings, Joseph (Barbara) McMurray, and Patricia Spencer; sister-in-law, Marilyn Kobus; brother-in-law, Charles Swartz; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and acquaintances.

In addition to his loving wife and parents, Dean was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Homer Jr., Donald, Robert, David, Paul, and Thomas McMurray; and sisters, Sandra Swartz, Betty Blackstone, Joan Jurny, and Peggy McCliment.

In accordance with Dean's wishes, cremation has been chosen. A private celebration of life and burial of Dean and Elaine's earthly remains will take place at a later date at Poland Riverside Cemetery in Poland, OH. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Dean graduated from Boardman High School in Youngstown, OH, in 1957, and went on to study at Ohio University. Once living in the Elkhart area, he owned a window and door company for many years until his retirement to Naples, FL. Dean was also an active member of the Home Builders Association of Elkhart County and the Elkhart Noon Optimists Club. When he and his wife moved to Florida, Dean was very active in the local church, passionate about sharing his faith and singing in the choir.

In his spare time, Dean enjoyed golfing, playing dominoes and card games, and cheering on his beloved sports teams, the Chicago Cubs and Ohio State University. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and friends, always managing to put a smile on everyone's faces with his jokes and personality.

Dean will best be remembered as a faithful and loving man who never had met a stranger. He was truly the life of the party wherever he went and held an amazing sense of humor until his very last days. Dean, along with all the love and joy he shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts he touched throughout his life.
