Obituary

Mr. David V. "Dave" Woolston, 93 of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes  at his home on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 3:09 am. He was born in Ionia, MI on November 20, 1926 and was the son of Charles F. and Melvina (Webb) Woolston. His wife, Sandra K. (Benner), survives him at home.

David was blessed with an exceedingly large and wide-spread family, which included a multitude of children, siblings, grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his children Steve, Mark and Judy.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart have been assisting the family with arrangements, and burial with graveside Military Honors will take place at the Prairie Street Cemetery' Veteran's Section in Elkhart on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 10:00 am. The U.S. Army's Funeral Honor Guard, along with Elkhart DAV Post 19, will render the honors.

David was honorably discharged from the US Army's 66th Constabulary Squadron after serving as a driver with the occupational forces following WWII. Those skills served him well as he became an over-the-road trucker for the next 30 years. In fact, there were not many things mechanical that Dave couldn't fix, re-build, re-engineer, weld or operate with skill, including all types of military equipment, cars, trucks, stock cars, motorcycles and even airplanes. If it had a mechanical heart, Dave could make it beat. In his later years, believe it or not, this spry older gentleman went on to work for a tree-trimming company after he retired from truck driving! David will be best remembered for never letting an idle moment pass him by.

In accordance with the family's wishes, it is asked that floral tributes not be sent. Thank you so much for your interest in David's story.
