BRISTOL — David G. Snyder, 82, of Bristol, passed away after an extended illness Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Elkhart.

He was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Northampton, Mass., to Grant B. and Ruth (Putman) Snyder.

On Aug. 5, 1955, he married his wife, Nancy Jean (Hanks) Snyder, in Elkton, Md.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, other survivors include three sons, Steven (Linda) Snyder of Elkhart, Scott (Lisa) Snyder of Mishawaka and James (Simmy) Snyder of Elkhart; daughter Susan (Todd) Collins of Elkhart; brother Dr. Richard (Phoebe) Snyder of Tucson, Ariz.; sister Catherine Parker of North Amherst, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

David served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from January 1951 until January 1955.

David worked for several years as an independent contractor in the mobile home industry as well as owned and operated his own scooter shop and worked as a carpenter during most of his working years.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Bristol and a member of DAV 19 in Elkhart.

Graveside committal services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bristol. The Rev. Bob VanKempen will officiate. Military graveside rites will be provided by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honor Guard and DAV Chapter 19.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
