ELKHART — David Kohl Peat, 62, of Elkhart, passed away early Saturday morning, Jan. 3, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.
David was born Feb. 16, 1952, in Angola, to the late William and June Kathryn (Kohl) Peat.
He married the former Rita Taylor on Aug. 17, 1974, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Rita Peat; son Adam Kohl Peat and daughter Kathryn (Katy) Gail Peat, both of Indianapolis; four siblings, William M. (Nancy) Peat of Union, Mich., Caryl (Tom) Moon of Mishawaka, Jeff (Diana) Peat of Elkhart and John (Carolyn) Peat of Indianapolis; also many cousins, nieces and nephews.
David was a graduate of Purdue University and a registered pharmacist. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi and also Pi Beta Kappa Society, a national academic honor society. David retired in December 2014 from MatrixCare, which is based out of Minneapolis. MatrixCare is the industry leader in cloud-based electronic health records, with care setting solutions across the continuum of care. It assists long-term care and senior living communities deliver superior care.
David was an active member of Jamestown United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and sang in the choir. He loved to spend time with his large, loving family and was a regrettable Bears fan.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Jamestown United Methodist, 59218 C.R. 3, Elkhart. Memorial services for David will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at the church. Pastor Paul Rogers will officiate. In keeping with David's wishes, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, David's family kindly request memorials be given to the Jamestown United Methodist Preschool.
Arrangements are under the care of Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart.
