He was born May 5, 1951, in Elkhart to Chester and Alta (Powell) Groff. He married Marsha Alexander on Oct. 12, 1989, in Elkhart.

She survives, along with a daughter, Dasha (Rodney) Lamp of Elkhart; two stepsons, Scott Weyrauch of Pheonix, Ariz., and Kevin Weyrauch of North Carolina; a grandson; two sisters, Susan (Darell) Lovejoy of Ohio and Beverly (Timothy) Templeton of Elkhart; and his mother.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Keith McFarren of Faith United Methodist Church in South Bend will officiate and burial will be at Rice Cemetery.

Mr. Groff worked in the grocery business, beginning in 1967 at Phil's Grocery. He would go on to become the store's manager and eventual owner.
