ELKHART — David T. Glanders, 81, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Elkhart Hospice House.
He was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Elkhart to Walter E. and Jeanie G. (Lavery) Glanders. On April 24, 1964, he married Patricia E. (Marks) Glanders in Elkhart.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, other survivors include four sons, David P. Glanders of Ukiah, Calif., Michael R. Glanders of Laytonville, Calif., Richard A. (Mary) Glanders of Willits, Calif., and Rocco T. Glanders of Mishawaka; two daughters, Carrie A. Glanders of Elkhart and Lori J. (Gary) Reeve of LaGrange; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter S. and James G. Glanders; two sisters, Dorothy J. Glanders and Jean Stackhouse; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
David proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He later worked as a sheet metal worker at Henry Weiss Company for more than 20 years and later was employed at Schult Homes prior to his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of DAV 19, Elkhart, and F&AM Lodge 193, Elkhart.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, who meant the world to him.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. His cremated remains will be placed in the Veteran Towers at Prairie Street Cemetery at a later date with military honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps and the DAV 19.
