ELKHART — David E. "Mac" McNeil, 77, of Elkhart, passed away at 11:43 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
A native of Elkhart, he was born Oct. 13, 1933, to Ernest Wayne and Ethel (King) McNeil. On July 2, 1960, he married Gloria Ann (Sturts) McNeil in Shelby, Ohio. She survives along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Dennis McNeil.
"Mac" was a 1951 graduate of Elkhart High School. He was employed for 43 years with the New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail railroads. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a utility hump conductor.
"Mac" loved to listen to his extended collection of jazz music. He was a very gifted saxophone player and enjoyed playing for many years.
Cremation services have been entrusted to Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. No visitation or funeral services will be held. Interment of his cremains will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date.
