Obituary

Mr. David Kent "Dave" Blough, 59, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly at Elkhart General Hospital on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021 at 2:40 pm following an accident at his work. Dave was born on February 22, 1962 in Mishawaka to the late Lavern Wayne Blough and Elizabeth Ann (Houston) Blough of Edwardsburg, Michigan. He went on to marry Judith Ann "Judy" Ashcraft on June 8, 1996 in Elkhart. She survives at home.

Also surviving is his son, David A. Blough and his fiancée Allison Carpenter, both of Elkhart. They are expecting a granddaughter in just a few months, and Dave was absolutely elated at the prospect of being a Grandpa for the very first time. He is also survived by his brothers John (Laura) Blough of Edwardsburg and Wayne (Kim) Blough of Seattle, Washington; sisters Sue (Devon) Mikel of Edwardsburg, Leanne (Pat) Fruth of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Brenda Blough of Newark, Ohio and Beth (Scott) Burger of Niles, Michigan, lifelong friends Kerry Yaw of Goshen and Frank Magner of Niles; and a host of loving extended family, close friends and work pals. Along with his dad Lavern, Dave is preceded in death by a brother, James Blough.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart are hosting Dave's celebration of life services on Saturday, October 23, 2021, beginning with a viewing at 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Dave's childhood friend and Harrison Township Trustee Kerry Yaw will officiate, and, in accordance with Dave's wishes, cremation will follow the services.

Dave worked almost 35 years repairing and programming copiers and fax machines for Ricoh USA out of Mishawaka. He had recently refocused his career path and had just received his CDL license, allowing him to pursue a local transport job which permitted him to be home in the evenings. He had been employed for less than a year there when his injury took place.

When he wasn't at work, Dave enjoyed being outdoors and working in his garden, tending to his flowers and vegetables. He also considered himself to be an accomplished outdoor BBQ griller and enjoyed cooking just about anything that had meat on it. He had recently acquired a smoker-roaster and was in the process of fine-tuning his cooking skills with it so he could expand his outdoor cooking talents. He cherished the times when his family was all together, and smoke was coming from the grill.

David was very patriotic, and although he never served in the military personally, he loved his country and enjoyed celebrating our country's veterans and service members. He was also a devout sports fan, with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame being at the top of his list of favorite teams. Good or bad, Dave remained loyal to Coach Kelly's boys, even though sometimes their playing warranted some choice commentary from Dave's living room easy chair. He was also rather fond of watching college basketball, and he even coached Lil' Dave's Little League team for several years back in the day. Dave also liked to relax by browsing on-line, and he especially liked playing the on-line mobile game "Clash of Clans", which is kind of a hybrid between the old board game "Risk" and "Sim-City".

Memorial donations may be given to the charity of one's choice. Friends and relatives are encouraged to read the entire obit and leave condolences, memories and/or pictures of Dave by clicking "Tribute Wall" on his obituary page on the funeral home's website and then following the prompts.
