ELKHART -- David G. "Dave" Calahan, 67, of S.R. 120, died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday (June 3, 2008) in Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born June 16, 1940, in Sturgis, Mich., to Charles and Bertha (Baker) Calahan. On July 17, 1993, he married Cindy M. Zong in Bristol.
She survives along with one daughter, Amy Calahan; four sons, William "Bill" (Sharon) Calahan of Mishawaka, Michael A. (Jen) Sigsbee of Bristol, Tad E. Calahan of Carmel and Derek Kujawa of Elkhart; two grandchildren; and one sister, Sharon (Elton) McClellan of Elkhart.
Mr. Calahan retired from Miles Laboratories (Bayer Corp.) in January 2003 after a 42-year career in mechanical services as a plumber and pipe fitter. He was a 1957 graduate of Elkhart High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1965. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Michiana Classic Chevy Club. He loved Italian food -- especially Volcano's.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Friends also may visit one hour prior to the celebration of his life at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pastor Tom Thews of Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Full military honors will be rendered at the funeral home after the service by the U.S. Army Honors Unit and Elkhart DAV Chapter 19. Cremation will follow the services.
