Darrell Wayne Baer, 72, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at his home.

Darrell was born on October 30, 1948 in Mishawaka, IN to Vernon B. Baer, Jr., and Alice Marie (Rich) Baer. He was married to Maryann Baer and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2021. Darrell also is preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Darrell is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Grover of Granger; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Shively; great grandchildren, Anne Marie and Alexa Lynne; sister, Kathy Klabusich of Elkhart; nieces, Andrea (Bo) Letherman and Angela (Craig) Miller. He also leaves behind his dogs Hannah, Jake and Razzle.

Darrell was a carpenter with Brown and Brown Company and Carpenter Union Local 413. He was a member of the Carpenters International Union. Darrell had a passion for collecting classic cars. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches and reading. He and his wife could be found frequenting Bristol Street Café for years. He will be remembered as being a "man's man" and displayed a strong-willed personality.

A Memorial Service for Darrell will be held at 6:00pm, Monday, August 16, 2021 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart with a gathering of family and friends an hour prior to the start of service from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Rev. Ryan Dalrymple is officiating. Private burial will take place at California Road Cemetery later in this month.
