Obituary

Dante Michael Campbell, 30, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 10:01 pm. Born on March 22, 1994, in Atlantic City, NJ, Dante blessed the world with his presence—and a sharp wit that kept everyone on their toes. His parents, Michael G. and Debra C. (DeMetz) Campbell, remain at home, holding the memories of their beloved son close to their hearts. Dante leaves behind his pride and joy, his son Dimitri M. Campbell, who undoubtedly inherited his father's good looks and sense of humor that could brighten any room. Dante's brother, Dion M. Campbell, and his wife Neha, reside in Mishawaka, possibly still recovering from Dante's legendary pranks. A host of extended family and friends will also carry forward his legacy of laughter, love, and the occasional jump scare (he was a master at sneaking up on people). Preceding him in death are all of his grandparents, who are surely welcoming him with open arms. The Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart is honored to host Dante's homegoing service on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 3:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to gather, reminisce, and share stories starting at 2:00 pm. Pastor Jeremy Sarber, Chaplain Emeritus at Billings Funeral Home, will be officiating the service. Following the celebration of Dante's life, cremation will take place as requested. Dante was a sensitive soul and a man of many talents. Whether working in hospitality, retail, or even as a parking valet at Four Winds Casino in South Bend, he always found a way to make people smile—sometimes by being the fastest valet on the lot, and sometimes by sneaking in a joke when you least expected it. But Dante's biggest love was spending time with his son Dimitri. The two of them could often be found bouncing on their trampoline, hunting monsters inside and out or going on "baby adventures". Dante had a particular soft spot for Fire Emblem and One Piece—two of his favorite escapes into the world of anime. If you ever found yourself in a trivia battle or a board game showdown with Dante, you were in for a challenge. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of random facts that left everyone in awe (and occasionally frustrated when they couldn't stump him). Though a bit of an introvert who cherished his quiet time at home, Dante could light up a conversation whenever someone engaged him—his sharp wit and sense of humor never failed to leave an impression. A lover of simplicity and order, Dante believed in doing things right the first time. His meticulous nature was the stuff of legend among family and friends. But underneath that quiet, reserved exterior was a man with a great sense of humor who delighted in sharing corny, classic practical jokes with those he loved. His ability to sneak around the house like a ninja only added to his prankster reputation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Dante's family, in care of his dad, Michael Campbell—because let's face it, supporting his loved ones was always Dante's top priority.
