Daniel “Dan” W. Hebel, 78, of Elkhart, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026 at his home.

Dan was born on June 7, 1947 in Elkhart, to the late, Walter and Irene (Zerebiny) Hebel. Dan married to his high school sweetheart, Linda (Snyder) Hebel .

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Irene and sister, Nancy Hopman.

Dan is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda Hebel of Elkhart; Dan’s sons, Caleb (Amanda) Hebel of Golden, CO and Cameron Hebel of Parsberg, Germany; grandchildren, Aiden, Bayla, Hailey and Malina; brother, Richard Hebel of Mishawaka, IN; and sister, Marian Latzke of Elkhart.

Dan graduated from Elkhart High School in 1965. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he worked as a mechanic.

Dan dedicated 25 years of his professional career to Miles Bayer Laboratory, serving as a scientist in the research and development department.

A skilled and patient craftsman, Dan enjoyed working and tinkering on cars in his garage. He was an avid sports fan who faithfully followed his favorite Chicago teams—the Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bears—and occasionally cheered on Indiana University men’s basketball. He also played softball on his company team, combining his love of athletics with camaraderie among colleagues.

Dan treasured simple pleasures, especially taking drives with his beloved Linda to St. Joseph, Michigan. Though quiet by nature, Dan formed deep and lasting friendships; if you were fortunate enough to be his friend, you truly knew it.

There will be a Celebration of Dan’s Life Gathering will be from 3-5pm EST. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514.

Per Dan’s request, he will be cremated.
