Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mr. Daniel Garl, Sr., who left us on June 17, 2026. Born on May 5, 1943 in Cassopolis, Michigan, Daniel lived a life full of warmth, laughter, contemplation, and invaluable wisdom.

Dan was a man of great character, embodying a blend of patience, tolerance and an intentional approach to life that touched those around him. He maintained a jovial spirit, often lighting up the room with his wit and humorous take on life. A soft-spoken man by nature, Dan’s thoughtful and affable demeanor was adored by many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Amy Garl, his daughters, Kellie Worcester (Nate) and Renee Foster (Jeff), his son, Daniel Garl, Jr. (Patti), his sisters Virginia Garl-Jent and Marcia Anglemyer (Tom), and brother Butch Garl. Dan was also survived by 4 grandkids and 3 great-grandkids, and many neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Garl, mother, Jeanette Garl, brothers, Eddie, George and Russell Garl, and his sister Carol Anglemyer. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and life lessons to those who will always hold him in their hearts.

Known for his love for the outdoors and recreational activities like fishing, hunting, ATV riding, and bird watching. He also enjoyed making jellies for those he loved and building a nice fire in the fire pit. Dan was a supporter of the University of Michigan Football team. His favorite local spots included Lake Templene and Mudd Lake - authentic representations of his love for water and the tranquility they embody.

Dan's love for life was just as remarkable as his career at Elkhart Products, which he started at the age of 18 and stayed loyal until his retirement.

His homemade applesauce & apple butter, fried fish, and beer-up-the-butt chicken were staples in his home and the warmth of his hospitality will be sorely missed.

A celebration of his life will be held on July 14, 2026, at 4:00-7:00 PM EST at Venue On 12, 600 E. Chicago Rd. in White Pigeon, giving family, friends, and loved ones an opportunity to remember and celebrate his remarkable life.

Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations to be made to either the Three Rivers HS Bass Fishing Club or the St. Joseph County Michigan Humane Society. The family will provide the donations directly. His kind nature and love for life will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his beloved dog, Finn.
