"Dan" Cavanaugh
February 7, 1943 – April 12, 2024
Daniel Bernard "Dan" Cavanaugh, 81, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, at his home. He was born on February 7, 1943, in Michigan City, IN, to the late Bernard and Margaret (Carbury) Cavanaugh.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Donna; children, Brian and Julie; 3 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a loving host of extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his two brothers and two sisters.
In accordance with Dan's wishes, cremation has been chosen. Services for Dan will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W Vistula St, Bristol, IN 46507, with visitation from 10 AM to 11 AM and a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 AM. Father Bob Van Kempen will officiate. A private family graveside and inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Vincent Cemetery.
Upon graduation from IUSB with a degree in accounting, Dan was employed by NIBCO of Elkhart at corporate headquarters and ended his time there as Corporate Treasurer. After leaving NIBCO, Dan accepted the position of Vice President at Holiday Rambler of Wakarusa and worked there for several years before transitioning to Automotive Technologies of South Bend as their CFO. Upon his retirement, Dan became a financial advisor to a local philanthropist where he assisted in developing financial reporting for the Elkhart Community Foundation. All during these years, Dan was also proud to work on various City of Elkhart organizations.
In his spare time, Dan was highly interested in sports, particularly with Notre Dame and the White Sox, being an avid lifelong fan of both teams. He also enjoyed travelling and spending winters in Orange Beach, AL. Most importantly, family was everything to Dan and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them and the friends he made along the way.
Dan, along with all the love and joy he shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts he touched throughout his life.
Memorial donations made in Dan's honor can be directed to Foundation Fighting Blindness, St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, or to a charity of one's choice.
