Aug. 12, 1942 - Jan. 23, 2013
ELKHART — Daniel J. Crosbie, 70, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 23, 2013, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Dan was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Elkhart, to Daniel B. and Alberta (Meyer) Crosbie. On July 13, 1968, he married the former Frederici "Fredi" J. Dubbe at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood, Mich.
She survives, as well as their children, Loren (Carrie) Crosbie of Osceola, Joe (Barbara) Crosbie of Elkhart and Amy (Brian) Cohen of Grayslake, Ill. Eight grandchildren also survive; along with his sister, Connie (Mike) Buckley of Elkhart; brothers John (Carol) Crosbie and Greg (Linda) Crosbie, both of Bristol; and his mother, Alberta Crosbie of Elkhart.
His father, Daniel B. Crosbie, preceded him in death.
Dan was a co-owner and president of Crosbie Foundry in Elkhart, which was started by his father in 1956. Dan and his brothers then ran the business and turned it over to Dan's sons in 2010. Dan was a 1960 graduate of Elkhart High School and then honorably served his country in the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of the Elkhart Knights of Columbus Council 1043, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church of Elkhart, and was chosen as one of the first three lay ministers to serve there.
His passions were fishing and collecting old lures and cash registers. He was also a proud member of Bass Masters and one of his lifetime highlights was fishing in a national tournament in 1975. However, Dan's true joy was spending time and making memories with his family and grandchildren.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends and family will gather for one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, to celebrate Dan's life at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1505 N. Main St., Elkhart. The Rev. Bill Sullivan will officiate. Interment will follow at Rice Cemetery, where the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honor Guard will render military honors. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart.
Memorials may be made to St. Thomas School.
