Obituary

Cynthia A. (Byrd) Smith, 70, of Elkhart, was called to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Methodist Hospital Southlake in Merrillville, IN. She was born on May 22, 1951, to the late Everett and Eloise Knight.

Cynthia is survived by her loving husband, Andrew Smith; children, William David Knight and Corine Tett; grandchildren, Tylis (Nakia Adams) Tyson, Capone McClarin, Trevion Knight, Ashanti Knight, Aureonia Maxwell, Nathaniel Fox, Eden Louce, and Dyonce Knight; great grandchildren, Ky'Lise Tyson, Trevion Tyson, Syncere Maxwell, Aziere James, and Calaiyah McClarin; sister, Carolyn Potts; nephew, Neal Potts; and best friend of many years, Cher Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Family and friends are called to gather at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from 10 a.m. to noon with a service to directly follow at noon with Pastor Nancy of True Vine Tabernacle in Elkhart to officiate. In accordance with Cynthia's wishes, cremation will follow services.

Cynthia was a loving and caring woman who was the true definition of a mother and a friend to all. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1969 and worked as a cab driver for Ace Cab in Elkhart for many years prior to retiring. Cynthia attended True Vine Tabernacle in Elkhart alongside her husband, Andrew. She and Andrew were married on August 17th and shared 47 years with each other. They were true best friends who enjoyed every moment they shared together. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, The Golden Girls and I Love Lucy. Cynthia also enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas. She had a witty sense of humor and loved to spend time with her family on the Holidays. Nothing brought her more joy than to be with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cynthia will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.
