"Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints." – Psalm 116:15
Deacon Curlie B. Latham was the third child born on May 5, 1950, in Pickens County, Alabama, to the late Silas Latham and Mary Elizabeth Latham. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jessie Latham, and sister, Freddie Latham.
At an early age, Deacon Latham confessed hope in Christ, and lived with unwavering faith. Deacon Latham departed this earthly life in Elkhart, IN, surrounded by the love and support of his wife and many family members. Though absent from the body, he is present with the Lord in his prepared place in our Savior's kingdom.
Deacon Latham had been a faithful servant at Canaan Baptist Church for many years, serving as Deacon Chairman and in the Men's Choir.
"Bill/Billy", as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was truly a "jack" of all trades and master of many. Although he was formally educated in the Pickens County, Alabama school system, over the years he received many certificates and rewards in several trades. He was employed at Dometic Corporation until his retirement in 2012.
Bill enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, and made sure to host gatherings regularly to keep the love and unity of family. Dad, uncle, grandpa, and great-grandpa Bill also had a great concern for the soul salvation of the children and young adults in his family, and often prayed on their behalf.
The loving memories of Deacon Latham will be cherished by his beloved wife of 34 years, Mother Faye Latham; eight dearly beloved children, Eric Latham, Erika (Stacey) Raji, Angela (Brandon) Lewis, Christopher (Janice) Bryson Sr., Mark Bryson, Wanda Words, the late Brenda Allen, the late Brian Bryson; daughter-in-law, Connie Bryson; 33 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; late great-granddaughter, Marcelle Simmons; six sisters; two brothers; 12 nieces; 11 nephews; two sisters-in-law, Rev. Jean Mayes, and Mrs. Delores Jones; two beloved friends, Mr. Denny Klapp, and Mr. Larry Coleman; and a host of other family members and friends.
Services for Deacon Latham will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart with a homegoing service beginning at 2 PM. An hour of visitation will begin prior to the service at 1 PM.
