ELKHART -- Corey Firkins, 49, of Elkhart, was found dead at 2:11 p.m. Monday (Jan. 25, 2010) in his home of natural causes.


He was born Jan. 14, 1961, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Harvell and Skipper (Hall) Firkins. On July 4, 1991, he married Michele S. Chandler in Elkhart.


She survives along with one daughter, Emily Firkins at home; one brother, Tiger A. Rogers of Elkhart; two sisters, Janiel Rinehart and Kandy Rogers, both of Elkhart; and his mother, Skipper Johnson of Elkhart.


He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Kerry K. Firkins.


Mr. Firkins had worked in production in the RV industry in Elkhart for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served as a coach and manager for the Cleveland Township Little League and bowled in the Men's League at Country Club Lanes, Elkhart. He spent his free time with his wife and daughter playing video games and baseball. He enjoyed helping others and was an avid jokester who liked to give away smiles and laughter.


Friends may call one hour prior to Friday's 4 p.m. funeral service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3415 Pleasant Plain Ave., Elkhart. Bishop Calvin Baker will officiate. Cremation will follow the service, with burial in Rice Cemetery at a later date.


Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is assisting with arrangements.
