Cortland “Cork” Lee Dennis, 95, of Elkhart, went Home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, May 25, 2026 at Brentwood Independent Living with his wife at his side.
Cork was born on July 1, 1930 in Leighton Township, MI to the late, David and Florence (Vandermeer) Dennis. He married the love of his life, Ruth Ann (Wirt) Dennis at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.
Cork is preceded in death by his stepson, Russell; 5 brothers and 1 sister.
Cork is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann Dennis of Elkhart; stepson Ronald Dodd, Jr, Pooh, Jennifer and Michael and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cork served his country in the U.S. Army as a Corporal Senior Lineman receiving a Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Army Occupation Medal in Japan and United Nations Service Medal. Cork worked with General Telephone company for 22 years as well as Employees Security and in retirement at Knights Inn aka Ramada Inn.
In his younger days, Cork enjoyed racing stock cars and working on cars in his garage.
He enjoyed preaching about the Lord and became a local celebrant spreading God’s Truth.
Cork was also a talented Irish tenor singing at churches and weddings in the local area.
Cork had no filter and could be feisty at times. However, Cork was an extremely hard worker who provided for his family.
Most of all, he had a deep devotion to his wife, Ruth until the very end.
There will be a Celebration of Cork’s Life Service at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 6, 2026 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor Jonathon Rose of Luminary Hospice officiating.
Per his wishes, Cork will be cremated.
