ELKHART — Cornell Davis Sr., 83, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 17, 1928, in Macon, Miss., to the late Sercen and Minnie (Hudson) Davis. He married Dell Ganaway on Aug. 23, 1963, in Joliet, Ill.
She survives, as well as sons Cornell (Cynthia) Davis Jr. of Pittsburg, Edward (Valerie) Davis of Mansfield, Ohio, Harry Agnew of Elkhart and Earl Davis of Mansfield; daughters Christine Bessant Davis, Minnett Brooks, Patsy Davis and Sheila Davis, all of Elkhart, and Mary D. Davis and Katie Davison of Mansfield; and brothers Nathaniel Davis of Mansfield and Cenell Davis of Dodge Center, Minn. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive as well.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Edith Malone, brothers Samuel, James and Lenzy Davis, two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2012, with calling for one hour prior at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 802 W. Garfield Ave., Elkhart. Pastor Sam F. Frison will officiate. At his request, cremation will follow the services at the church.
Cornell was a member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 4. He retired from Mast Construction and also worked at Elkhart Foundry and other construction companies. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church and the church choir, male chorus and Brotherhood. He loved fishing, playing bingo and family outings.
