JANESVILLE, Wis. — Columbus "Bubba" Jefferson Jr., 75, of Janesville, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Friday, June 1, 2012, at St. Mary's Janesville Hospital.
He was born April 19, 1937, in Hayti, Mo., to Columbus Jefferson Sr. and Ivy (Griffin) Jefferson.
On Aug. 23, 1985, he married Connie R. Otterbridge in Elkhart. She preceded him in death Sept. 26, 2005.
Survivors include a son, Greg Braxton of Benton Harbor, Mich.; seven stepdaughters, Angela (Walter) Peoples of Elkhart, Arlene Mack of Elkhart, Tammy (Frederick) Hines of Janesville, Germaine (Ronald) Gregory of Kansas City, Mo., Addie Bates of Elkhart and Annette Bates-Porter of Elkhart; two stepsons, Lovell Bates and Henry Bates, both of Elkhart; two sisters, Coreen Jefferson of Benton Harbor and Marie Jefferson of Chicago; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Christine Davidson, Ethel Stone and Ivy Jefferson-Jones; brother Freddy Jefferson; stepdaughter Fannie Ann Bates; stepson Bobby Joe Bates and great-granddaughter Jasmine Gregory.
Bubba was employed as a mechanic for Toyota for more than 30 years prior to his retirement in 1997.
He enjoyed spending time working on automobiles and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the noon funeral service Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Interment will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.
