ELKHART -- Clyde E. Garrett, 63, logged his final mile at 11:20 p.m. Monday (May 24, 2010) at his home in Elkhart after an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Lafayette.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Rachael Ann (Fisher) Garrett, his best friends, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Michael and Peggy Fisher of Elkhart and Patricia Fisher of Tampa, Fla., and his four stepchildren, Carrie (Dave) Mathews of Indianapolis, Thomas (Mary) Conway Jr. of Elkhart, Douglas (Shana) Conway of Goshen and Amy (Randy) Houser of Edwardsburg, Mich., whom he raised as his own children. He has 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He has four children from a previous marriage.

Clyde was an over-the-road truck driver for 37 years, most recently driving for G and R Transport.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (May 28, 2010) at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and for two hours prior to the funeral service that will be at noon Saturday (May 29, 2010), also at Billings Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Campagna will officiate.
