He was born June 6, 1922, in Elkhart to Carl Vernon and Ella (Chandler) Markey. He married Mary Lou Davis on July 26, 1942, in Elkhart.
She survives along with two daughters, Susan (Jack) Frick of Elkhart and Anne Lucas of Edwardsburg, Mich.; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Roy and Alice Martin; and one brother, Ned Markey.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, at Grace Lutheran Church in Elkhart. The Rev. Richard Vonesh and Sister Nora Frost will officiate. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Markey worked for New York Central Railroad from 1942 to 1964. He retired in 1987 from Burnstine's, where he worked in outside sales to the mobile home and RV industries. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in India and Burma. He loved playing golf and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Elkhart Elks Club.
