ELKHART — Clifford L. Bender, 78, of Elkhart, passed away at 1:37 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Elkhart General Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born June 24, 1933, in Goshen to Cephas L. and Fannie (Troyer) Bender. On April 7, 1957, he married Janice E. (Cook) Bender in Jimtown. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Rodman (Marilyn) Bender of Jimtown; two daughters, Kimberly (Roger) Stoops of Edwardsburg, Mich., and Stacie (Adam) Remaly of Dayton, Ohio; sister Marlene (Robert) Pletcher of Middlebury; two brothers, Mervin (Ginger) Bender and Eugene Bender, both of Middlebury; nine grandchildren, Bodie, Brock and Blane Bender, Shane (Ashley) Stoops, Shana (Scott) Kretchman, Sheila Stoops, Shannon Stoops, Alec Remaly and Ryan Remaly; and one great-grandson, Jackson Leroy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Elizabeth Bender and Ida Ellen Miller.
Clifford worked for Burger Dairy and later worked for Skyline for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1998. He was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and the Baugo Lions Club.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 25, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 59218 C.R. 3, Elkhart, IN 46517. Pastor Paul Rogers will officiate. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
