EUGENE, Ore. — Claude Lawrence Canell III, 75, of Eugene and formerly of Elkhart, Ind., passed away Wednesday, June 18, while visiting family in Hemet, Calif.

He was born Dec. 28, 1938, in Elkhart to Claude L. Canell II and Frances M. Canell.

Survivors include four daughters, Jamie Vivanco of Hemet, Denise Lawrence of Eugene and Mary Canell and Kimberly Canell, both of Camarillo, Calif.; one son, Claude L. Canell IV of Lebanon, Mo.; six grandchildren, Kristina Canell, Matthew Eberts, Nicholas Vivanco, Corey Vivanco, Mackenzie Vivanco and Karen Canell; and three great-grandchildren, Carina Herrera, Nicholas Vivanco and Reilly Vivanco.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen R. Canell; one brother, David Canell; and one sister, Mary L. Canell.

Claude retired from the U.S. Navy in 1986 after 22 years of service to his country.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and often enjoyed spending time fishing and camping.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, in Rice Cemetery in Elkhart. The U.S. Navy and DAV 19 will render military funeral honors.

Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is entrusted with arrangements.
