Christine D.
Webb
Jan 20, 1959 — May 6, 2026
Mrs. Christine Dianne (Charles) Webb, 67, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully within the quiet comfort of her home on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 2:18 pm, following a period of declining health. Though her family’s hearts are heavy with loss, they find comfort in knowing that Christine’s gentle spirit, loving heart, and unforgettable personality will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched so deeply.
Christine was born in Sault Ste. Marie on January 20, 1959, to the late Robert Lynn Charles and Dianne A. (VanLuven) Charles, who survives in Edwardsburg, Michigan. She carried with her throughout life the quiet strength, resilience, and caring nature that would become the very foundation of her family and friendships.
She is survived by her beloved husband and lifelong companion, Lenz D. Webb. Their love story was one built not only on romance, but on friendship, loyalty, patience, and devotion. After falling in love nearly 44 years ago, the two were finally married in 2008 in Elkhart, proving to everyone around them that true love never concerns itself with a calendar. Together they built a life filled with laughter, companionship, and the kind of comfort only soulmates can provide.
Christine was a proud and loving mother to Aero (Sunshine) Charles of Elkhart and Michael (Rachele) Smith of Fort Wayne. Her children knew her as the kind of mother who was always there — whether someone needed encouragement, advice, a listening ear, or simply to hear her familiar voice asking, “Are you doing okay?” She had a way of making people feel cared for, even in the smallest moments. Her love was steady, unconditional, and deeply genuine.
She also leaves behind her cherished sister, Corrina Valentine of Edwardsburg; grandchildren Lance Van Huffel, Michaella Charles, and Autumn Charles; along with a large circle of extended family members, dear friends, faithful neighbors, and acquaintances who will miss her warmth and kindness immensely.
And then there were the animals.
To say Christine loved animals would hardly scratch the surface. Her yard and porch became something of a sanctuary for every wandering creature in the neighborhood. Cats found safety there. Birds gathered there. Squirrels practically expected room service. Even a notoriously grumpy groundhog and the occasional wandering turkey found themselves welcomed into Christine’s little kingdom of compassion. She simply could not turn away anything that needed fed, comforted, or loved. Her family lovingly jokes that she may have operated the most unofficial wildlife rescue in Elkhart County.
Christine was also preceded in death by her father, Robert Lynn Charles, and the recent loss of her sweet feline companions, Puffy Combs and her sister Minnifer, whose passing saddened her deeply.
For many years, Christine worked within the RV manufacturing industry as a dedicated production worker. But while she worked hard throughout her life, her career never defined who she truly was. Christine’s real life’s work was caring for others. She poured herself into her family, her friendships, and her home. She had an enormous heart and a nurturing soul that naturally drew people toward her.
She loved the outdoors and felt most at peace surrounded by nature. Whether she was camping, fishing, sitting quietly outdoors, or simply watching the wildlife she adored so much, Christine found beauty in the simple things. She was intelligent, thoughtful, and wonderfully well-read, possessing both sharp wit and practical wisdom. She could carry on conversations about nearly anything and always had advice ready for anyone who needed it.
Her kitchen was another place where her love truly shined. Christine was a wonderful cook whose hearty comfort meals brought family together time and time again. Nobody ever left her home hungry, and many left with leftovers whether they asked for them or not. Feeding people was one of the many ways she showed love.
Christine also remained deeply proud of her Christian upbringing within the Lutheran Church. Her faith was personal, steady, and comforting throughout her life. She often turned to her Bible for strength, reassurance, and peace during difficult days.
And if you knew Christine well, you also knew there was one thing you probably should not interrupt her for on football Saturdays: her beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She was a fiercely loyal fan who celebrated victories passionately and endured losses with equal passion — though likely with a few colorful opinions mixed in.
Above all else, Christine will be remembered for the way she made people feel loved. She was attentive, compassionate, funny, stubborn in the best ways, nurturing, and deeply devoted to the people and creatures, fortunate enough to be part of her life. The world feels quieter without her in it, but her love leaves behind an imprint that time will never erase.
In accordance with Christine’s wishes, cremation will take place under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Elkhart. No immediate services are planned at this time.
