Chester J. "Chet" Soucie, 71, of Goshen, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Kankakee, IL on August 23, 1949, to the late Hilaire and Erna (Neuendorf) Soucie.
Chet is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janette M. Soucie; children, Kristine M. (Shawn) Weldy and Michael J. "Mike" (Abigail) Soucie; grandchildren, Kaleb, Hanna, and Saige; brothers, Lee (Betty) and Rudy (Brenda) Soucie; and sister, Yvonne Barnard. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Karl Soucie; and sister, Patricia Soucie.
In accordance with Chet's wishes, cremation was chosen. A celebration of life service will take place on Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 3-7 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St. in Elkhart. Chet will be laid to rest with military honors at Marion National Cemetery on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. Please follow social distancing procedures and wear a face mask for the graveside service.
Chet was a hard-working man who proudly served in the United States Army Corps. of Engineers, where he was honorably discharged. He worked as a locomotive engineer since he was 18 and worked for New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern for 42 years prior to his retirement in 2009. He married the love of his life, Janette Longacre, on October 24, 1969, after he was out of the service. Together, with their family, Janette and Chet enjoyed traveling, golfing, and taking photos of the many places they visited with their children. Chet will be missed greatly by his loving family and friends.
