ELKHART — Cheryl Denise Harris, 50, of Elkhart, passed away after an extended illness in the emergency department at Elkhart General Hospital at 5:22 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013.
She was born June 24, 1963, in New Orleans and married James M. "Mark" Harris on Aug. 11, 1990, in Elkhart.
Mark survives with their sons, Eric D. Harris of Elkhart and Matthew G. Harris of West Lafayette; daughters Stephanie M. Harris of Elkhart and Kristin K. Harris of Mishawaka; brother Dennis E. (Connie) Swathwood Jr. of Elkhart; parents Charles E. and Ruth A. Estes of Elkhart; and two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Swathwood, and her grandparents.
Cheryl was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking, and spending time with children of all ages. She was a member and former chaplain of the ladies auxiliary at American Legion Post 308. She was an avid New Orleans Saints, Louisiana State University and Notre Dame football fan as well.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., with a celebration of Cheryl's life at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. Pastor Richard Secor of Kendallville Nazarene Church will officiate. Burial will follow services in Olive West Cemetery in Elkhart.
